Pula is a small port town that is situated in the south-western part of Istria. It has a total population of 62,378. The entire town is segregated into three port basins situated in the inner part of a bay, and separated by the islands of St. Andrew, St. Catherine, and Uljanik. Pula is regarded as the most important port in Istria. Pula’s landscape is mostly covered by red soil and much of the Oakwood forests have been reduced to shrubs. The climate is favourable for tourism with a low of 5 °C in January and a high of 23.2 °C in July. The winters are dominated by the bora and the sirocco winds. Pula’s economy is dependent on the shipbuilding industry at Uljanik, textiles, metal industry and glass manufacturing apart from tourism.
